So tell me a little more about Media140

Founded in February 2009, by Andrew Gregson. Media140 is an independent global movement creating unique multimedia conferences and events to explore the future of the real-time web. We do not just focus on Twitter but look at all the real-time platforms that are now beginning to affect business and consumers: to foster discourse, collaboration and innovation within journalism, media, advertising, entertainment, marketing, PR, gaming and technology industries.

Media140 is a global brand and organisation spanning 5 continents, employing over 12 Media140 Associates in more than 10 major cities.

We are a group of highly respected and well-networked individuals from leading media outlets, universities, agencies and brands who link together our peers to have real and productive discussions about the evolving world we work in. As industry professionals, we are people investing in pioneering ways to make change count for industry, audiences, consumers, brands and the bottom line.

So, what’s all this about a balloon trip around the world in 140 days?

In August 2009, we came up with the idea to take the Media140 event on a global our and subsequently launched a project called Around the world in 140 days - taking a leaf out of Jules Verne’s famous book and adding our own little spin. So we built on the momentum of the London event by selecting certain cities around the world to be part of this global project.

In the next 140 days we are planning Media140 events in India, Middle East, Europe, South Africa, China, Thailand, Central Europe and the US – we may not manage every city in the 140 days, but we will certainly go around the globe. Check our EVENTS to see which we have confirmed

Each Media140 is supported and managed by a team of local people who help with logistics, sponsors and speakers. We of course share the love and each event has a profit share model for everyone who supports it.

Philanthropy!

Yes, we do have a charitable side and every event we commit to donate to a local charity in the region. At the inaugural Media140 event in May, 2009 we raised over £7,500 ($15,000) and all the proceeds from the event were donated to MENCAP
